At Mighty Maintenance, we help property owners make smart, long-term improvements to their homes and commercial spaces. One of the most effective ways to cut heating costs and improve comfort is by installing internal wall insulation. We recently completed a project using the SWIP system, and here’s a quick look at the process and why it matters.
Why Internal Wall Insulation?
Many older buildings around Lancaster and the North West were built without modern insulation, which means they lose heat quickly and cost more to run. Internal wall insulation helps to:
- Reduce heat loss through external walls
- Improve indoor comfort levels year-round
- Lower energy bills
- Meet current energy efficiency standards

Step-by-Step Installation
For this project, we worked in a mid-century property with solid external walls. Our client wanted to futureproof their building and cut down on heating costs, so we recommended the SWIP system — a trusted solution for internal wall insulation.
1. Timber Stud Framing
We began by fixing timber studwork to the internal face of the external walls, creating a solid and level base for insulation and plasterboard. This also allowed us to reroute electricals and accommodate future fittings safely.
2. Preparing Window Reveals
Precision was key when working around windows. We insulated and sealed all edges to prevent cold bridging — one of the biggest culprits for heat loss in poorly insulated homes.
3. Insulating with SWIP
Once the frame was in, we fitted SWIP insulation slabs snugly between the studs. This high-performance mineral wool not only insulates but also helps reduce sound transfer — perfect for bedrooms, offices, or noisy urban settings.

After the insulation, we’ll be boarding and finishing the walls with plasterboard, ready for painting or decorating. The end result? A warmer, quieter, and more energy-efficient space — all completed with a professional finish and minimal disruption.
